Marché Franprix supermarket chain selects CodeOnLine for the 2009 Foire aux Vins (Wine Fair)

Held from 10 to 20 September in 700 stores, the Foire aux Vins is a yearly promotional event that invites customers to discover organic wines, the products of independent young winegrowers and, of course, classic wines (prize-winning wines, vintage Bordeaux wines, etc.).

This year, the « Marché Franprix » supermarket chain put the emphasis on modernity and accessibility by helping customers choose their wine in store thanks to an exclusive mobile technological innovation!

By taking a photo of the barcode on bottles displayed as part of the Foire aux Vins, consumers were able to access extra information, including a description of the wine, foods to serve with the wine, the ideal serving temperature, awards or medals, a “word from the producer”,  notes provided by the retailer, and excerpts from professional guides.

Franprix managed and made the project possible by combining the skills of two complementary partners:

  • GS1 provided its mobile barcode reading expertise and created the link with the information published thanks to CodeOnLine service,
  • Netific/Distribéo put its platform at the disposal of producers and Marché Franprix to publish their information in a straightforward and intuitive way.
